This is one of my student drawings. St Mary’s is the parish church of Faversham and a distinctive landmark in the town, with its unique crown spire. Drawing it in pencil taught me to slow down and really look at the tracery, the stonework and the weathered headstones. Looking back, I can see the beginnings of an attention to buildings that has stayed with me ever since.
